New year’s resolutions. We’ve all heard of them. A lot of us have made them. But if you truly care about your progress and personal growth, stop making new year’s resolutions.
“Why put off to tomorrow something that you can do today?”
This is the underlying issue with making new year’s resolutions. If you were serious about making a change, why would you wait til the new year? Even if the new year is less then a month away, those thirty days are wasted while you tell yourself, “just wait til the new year hits and you’ll see how much I can accomplish.” No! The only difference between the change from December 30th to December 31st and from December 31st to January 1st is that the calendar resets. Nothing magical happens. You aren’t going to magically feel motivated. Even if you do, that motivation will eventually fade away.
Everyone says, “new year, new me.” I’d counter with, “new day, new me.” Every day is an opportunity to change your life. Though I can’t tell you the exact day that I chose change my life, I can tell you that it wasn’t January 1st. When you are serious about change, you won’t want to wait. You’ll start as soon as possible.
Everyone makes massive goals for their new year’s resolutions. Instead, make SMART (Specific, Measurable, Action oriented, Realistic, and Time oriented) goals and start now. There is no time like the present to start. Time is money. But unlike money, once time is gone, you can’t get it back. Start now and make your dreams come true.
